Regular washing and grooming are a vital part of the well-being and healthiness of your furry friend, which is why we provide both services here in our Caringbah-based dog daycare. Think about how great you feel after a fresh haircut, facial or visit to the nail salon! The right frequency of bathing and grooming depends on a couple of factors including your dog’s breed, age, lifestyle, and coat health. While many dogs shed, others such as poodles do not shed as profusely and require grooming every 8-12 weeks.
The breed, coat type, activity level and overall health of your dog can be a significant factor in how often you should bathe your dog. However, on average for medium to long coat dogs, it should be every 2-4 weeks and between 4-8 weeks for short coated dogs. A good indication for when your dog needs to be bathed is when it develops an odour, excessive shedding or matting or begins to scratch and lick itself more than usual. To check one more thing off your to-do list, Pooch & Play have 10 or 12-week pamper packages which provide a range of grooming solutions.
Ensuring your dog’s hair is not matted needs to be checked regularly. You can do this by applying a detangler spray or conditioner to the matted areas to make the hair easier to detangle. Using a comb, gently work through the mat slowly and break it into smaller pieces. If the mat is tough and you are struggling, please see a professional to reduce irritation and pain. We also provide de-matting solutions at our daycare so you can easily book in at your next appointment.
